Perfect for a quick sweet treat.

Quick and simple cinnamon sugar donuts to whip up on a whim! Only a few simple ingredients make delicious, pillowy bite-size donuts.

Shortcut Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

You guessed it – these are super simple and require no homemade dough. The best part: they only take about 15 minutes from start to finish. Cut out your donuts, heat up the oil, and roll in cinnamon sugar!

These pack a great punch of cinnamon sugar flavor & double rolling the donuts creates an even better coating.

I learned about this treat while attending a sleep away camp as a kid- and I loved them…we all did! Therefore, these are a great camping trip treat considering the minimal ingredients, you just need a way to heat up the oil!

What’s in Cinnamon Sugar Donuts?

Need I say it again, but not much! These are actually super simple.

  • 7.5 oz can biscuit dough
  • white granulated sugar
  • cinnamon
  • Neutral oil for frying, such as avocado, canola, vegetable

What Kind of Biscuit Dough?

Surprisingly, the cheapest biscuit dough!

You don’t need anything fancy here – no grands, layers, flaky, etc. I have found they don’t cook up as well when using it for donuts. I simply buy the generic “biscuits” in a can.

The store brands have always worked great – Great Value, Publix – so no need to spend the extra money!

Can I Roll the Donuts in Something Else?

You could roll in powdered sugar in place of the cinnamon sugar mixture. I haven’t tried dipping in chocolate or something similar as this is a tried and true for a quick treat. Although, I am testing a jelly stuffed shortcut donut!

Cinnamon sugar is a classic and a bit nostalgic – reminds me of cinnamon sugar toast. Who doesn’t love cinnamon sugar?

How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

  • Add your neutral oil to a pot to begin heating – I found the sweet spot to be about 325-350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Prep the cinnamon sugar mixture before you start frying, you want to roll in the sugar while they’re hot!
  • Cut out your donuts. I used a 1 inch cookie cutter. Use anything you have on hand, such as a bottle cap, a shot glass, anything round that will cut out the centers. Fry up the centers for donut holes – no wasting here.
Raw biscuit dough turned into donuts with a silver cookie cutter and the biscuit packaging in the background.
  • Add 2-3 donuts at a time depending on your pot size. They will sink to the bottom and quickly float to the top. Flip when they are nice and golden. They cook quick – only about 2-3 minutes. The donut holes (centers) cook even quicker.
  • Carefully remove from the oil and roll both sides in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Double roll! The sugar mixture will melt a little bit, roll the donuts a second time to get more coating.
  • Serve right away! These are best within the first few hours – which works well since it’s not a large batch with 1 can of biscuit dough.
  • Although, make as many as you need! Just increase your cinnamon sugar mixture and snag an extra can of biscuit dough.

While these are a great on the whim sweet treat, you can add them alongside a breakfast (or for breakfast) or even a brunch. They’d go great with something savory like a Crustless Broccoli and Cheese Quiche.

Description

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts made with biscuit dough – a quick sweet treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 7.5 oz can biscuit dough
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • Neutral oil for frying, such as avocado, canola, vegetable

Instructions

  1. Pour 2–3 inches of neutral oil into a pot or deep pan. Heat the oil to 325–350°F.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix 1/2 cup white granulated sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Lay out the biscuit dough. Using a 1-inch cookie cutter or any round object (bottle cap, shot glass), cut out the centers of each biscuit to form classic donut shapes. Save the centers to fry as donut holes.
  4. Carefully place 2–3 donuts into the hot oil at a time, depending on the size of your pot. The donuts will sink and then float to the surface. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use tongs to flip and remove once both sides are golden.
  5. Immediately place the hot donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture and coat both sides. The first coat will melt slightly, roll a second time for more sweetness.
  6. Serve warm. These are best enjoyed within a few hours of frying.

Notes

Do a double roll! Roll the donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture twice for extra coating.

Enjoy within a few hours for maximum freshness and pillowy goodness.
