Crockpot Turkey Chili

Perfect for an easy, week night dinner.

This crockpot turkey chili is great to throw together in the morning and cook all day to make your evening even easier. Load it up with your favorite toppings for a nutritious and filling dinner.

Ingredients

I enjoy using ground turkey for this recipe, with all the flavors and beans, you really can’t tell it’s not beef. But ground beef also works great in this recipe. The longest step is browning your ground turkey which takes less than 10 minutes. The rest is dump and go. My beans of choice for this crockpot turkey chili is cannellini beans, often times called white kidney beans, and dark red kidney beans!

Ingredients on the table top to make chili including ground turkey, cans of tomato sauce, red kidney beans, white kidney beans, diced tomatoes and green chilies and chili seasonings.

Toppings

I am of the mindset that toppings on your chili are important! Not really, but they just make it that much better.

Some popular toppings include:

  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Avocado
  • Green Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Pickled or fresh jalapeños
  • Hot sauce for an extra kick

Description

Quick and easy crockpot turkey chili.

Ingredients

Scale

For the meat:

  • 1 pound ground turkey (I use 93% lean meat/7% fat)
  • 2 teaspoons oil (avocado or olive)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Fresh cracked black pepper to taste

For the chili mixture:

  • 1 15 ounce can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15.5 ounce can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 10 ounce can original Rotel
  • 1.5 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar

Toppings (optional):

  • Sour cream
  • Sharp cheddar cheese (or any cheese you prefer)
  • Sliced avocado
  • Green onions
  • Diced onion
  • Diced jalapeno
  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  1. On the stovetop over medium heat, add 2 teaspoons of oil and brown your ground turkey.
  2. Season the turkey with 1 teaspoon kosher salt and fresh black pepper to taste.
  3. Once the turkey is cooked through and no pink remains, add 2 cloves minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add the cooked ground turkey to your crockpot.
  5. Rinse and drain 1 15 ounce can kidney beans and 1 15.5 ounce can cannellini beans. Add the beans to the crockpot.
  6. To the crockpot, add 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce and 1 10 ounce can original Rotel. Stir the mixture.
  7. Add in your seasonings: 1.5 tablespoons chili powder, 2 teaspoons onion powder, ¼ teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, and 1 tablespoon light brown sugar.
  8. Stir the mixture gently until combined.
  9. Cook on high for 4 hours or low 8 hours – the lower and slower the better. Stir every few hours if possible.
  10. Serve and top with your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • You can sub the turkey for ground beef and it will still taste great!
  • Beans can be changed to your preference, but it will change the intended flavor.
  • I have used this recipe on the stovetop, but the crockpot really helps meld the flavors to have that delicious chili taste.
